| Hey y'all, Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week: - Why I keep putting out this newsletter.
- The many lives of Lafcadio Hearn and why his ghost stories still haunt us. (I'm reading Japanese Ghost Stories at night before bed. During the day, I'm enjoying the short essays in Elisa Gabbert's The Word Pretty and the "micro memoirs" in Beth Ann Fennelly's Heating & Cooling.
- Stephen King's house to become an archive and writer's retreat.
- The monarch butterflies are making their way through Austin again and they're so lovely.
- Cas Holman's search for the ideal playground. (I need to make time to watch Abstract: The Art of Design on Netflix.)
- A stone is a marvelous thing.
- An interview with animator Don Hertzfeldt. (And a followup tweet.)
- Ear candy: I've mainly just been listening to New Order's "Your Silent Face" and my New Division Joy Order playlist on repeat. Very autumnal.
- Eye candy: Fleabag's Titian.
- RIP poet John Giorno. RIP designer Philip Gips. RIP actor Robert Forster. (And so many others. What a week.)
Thanks for reading. If you like this newsletter and want to support it, forward it to someone who'd like it or, even better, buy them a book! If you're seeing this newsletter for the first time, you can subscribe here. xoxo, Austin |
