30-day challenge
Hey y'all,

Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week:
  1. For anybody doing NaNoWriMo (or a similar 30-day challenge) I made something for you.

  2. After listening to his terrific podcast, Ways of Hearing, I tore through Damon Krukowski's book, The New Analog. Recommended, especially if you're a fan of John Berger's Ways of Seeing or David Byrne's How Music Works. (Both are favorites of mine.)

  3. Take a peek inside a month of my notebooks.

  4. I wrote about visiting the brand-new central library here in Austin and feeling like a citizen.

  5. Artists whose physical shortcomings led to their signature work.

  6. If you're in the US, open enrollment at Healthcare.gov is here. The current administration is actively trying to sabotage it, so spread the word.

  7. Eye and ear candy: Sam and Dave on German TV in 1967. Those pipes! Those moves! (See also: the joy of old music shows on YouTube.)

  8. A good movie: Hunt for the Wilderpeople, written and directed by Taika Waititi, who also made the hilarious What We Do In The Shadows... which is getting a sequel! (And yes, he directed the new Thor movie.)

  9. Reminders: you're allowed to change your mind, you don't have to share everything, and you have the right to remain silent.

  10. If you're headed to the Texas Book Festival, come see me on Sunday! I'm interviewing Tom Gauld, author of Baking With Kafka, and Will Schwalbe, author of Books For Living. (Both are books about books, so we'll probably be talking about — yes, you guessed it — books!)
Thanks for reading. If you like this newsletter, forward it to a friend, buy a book, or tweet me some love

PS. Happy November. Looks like we might actually make it to 2018. (Fingers crossed.) Time to buy a new calendar! (Last year's had great reviews, and this year's is even better.)
