Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week: - The creative learning spiral.
- I finished Tove Jansson's Fair Play. (As you probably know, she's one of my favorite writers who draw. I highly recommend The Summer Book and her Moomin novels and comics.)
- The tools matter and the tools don't matter.
- A few weeks ago I shared "How Facebook is Killing Comedy." This week: Why Facebook is a waste of time for arts nonprofits. (Steve Lambert is a very interesting dude.) I don't begrudge you if you're a Facebook fan, but I want to thank you for reading my blog and subscribing to this home-cooked newsletter. I like having a direct connection with you unfiltered by any algorithm.
- Why I like to think of my books as fancy zines.
- Eye candy: Vincent Bal's Shadowology, Tomi Ungerer's Schnipp, Schnapp collages, and Francois Robert's Faces.
- Ear candy: the terrific piano trio on This Here Is Bobby Timmons. (Thanks, Brian!)
- To stream: I really enjoyed Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky, aka "Ocean's 7-11." (I was sorta waiting for Toots & The Maytals' cover of "Country Roads" to play over the credits.) Soderbergh's great Ocean's Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen are all streaming on Netflix. (Speaking of Netflix: I got weepy like everybody else watching the reboot of Queer Eye.)
- RIP comedian Barry Crimmins. I've heard good things about Bobcat Goldthwait's documentary about him, Call Me Lucky. (Again, streaming on Netflix.)
- Working hard at play.
