Hey y'all, Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week: - I took a week-long trip with my family to San Francisco and now it's SXSW, but I did keep up the daily blog. Some favorite posts: why singing is so good for you, an encounter with a painter who says his work feels more like play, an astronomer's perspective on cosmic perspective, being worthy of your life, and thoughts on my youngest son turning 3.
- I'm finishing up Diane Ackerman's A Natural History of the Senses. (I've already added it to my recommended reading.)
- A parable about what can happen when we share what we love: "The Broccoli Tree."
- I work in my garage, so I liked this look inside Marc Maron's garage. (I love that he keeps stacks of Please Kill Me to give to guests.)
- Memorable moments from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Mr. Rogers was quite simply one of the most decent Americans who ever lived. I haven't seen the new documentary, but I loved this old one from PBS. See also: Mr. Rogers on drawing and his mother's advice to "look for the helpers."
- Because you know I'll link to almost anything Moomins related: Rhianna Pratchett on her and her father's love for the Moomins.
- Parents: check out The Kid Should See This, a website of "not-made-for-kids, but perfect for them" videos. (Their gift guide is awesome.) Oh, and my 3-year-old is obsessed with Super Simple Draw, which is sort of like an animated Ed Emberley book.
- Celebrating its 21st anniversary, George Saunders' debut, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, is on sale for $2.99. Here's what he taught me about being a decent writer and a decent dad at the same time.
- Combining my love for talking to strangers and looking at the moon, here's a lovely video about inviting strangers to look at the moon.
- Obituaries of remarkable women who were overlooked by the NYTimes.

Here's a selfie I took with Mac and Laura of the band Superchunk :) Our SXSW panel was fun — thanks to everybody who came out. | |
